More than 400 people attended the second annual Autism Speaks Heroes Ball last week hosted by the Chicago chapter of Autism Speaks.
The event, which included a live auction as well as a silent auction, recognized local autism heroes and raised funds and awareness for the Chicago area chapter of Autism Speaks. The ball was hosted by Zoraida Sambolin, Weekday Edition co-anchor of "NBC5 News Today" in Chicago and special assignment reporter and fill-in news anchor for Telemundo Chicago.
The ball was supported by Legacy Marketing Partners, a Chicago-based experiential marketing agency specializing in event marketing, mobile tours, sponsorship activation and corporate hospitality. To support Autism Speaks, its pro bono client, Legacy donated agency hours to creative materials and Web site design, securing the celebrity host and entertainment, event production, coordination with the venue, solicitation of auction items, ticket sales and all accounting work.
"In the past, Legacy was involved with several charities across many causes," agency President Vince Parrinello says. "We made a decision two years ago to focus our efforts on a single charity in Chicago where we could really make a difference. After a thorough search, we felt the Chicago chapter of Autism Speaks was the best fit for our agency, where our pro bono work would make the biggest impact. The 2nd annual Autism Speaks Heroes Ball was the successful culmination of thousands of hours to help change the future for all who are affected by autism."
Autism Speaks is the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization. According to a new study published by Pediatrics, autism now affects one in 91 children and one in 58 boys.
