Ad network DogTime Media has launched a Facebook app to help save dogs. With Frontline Plus as the exclusive sponsor, Save a Dog seeks to involve people in helping shelter dogs by earning points that translate into donations from DogTime and Frontline to RescueGroups.org. According to DogTime, an estimated 6 million to 8 million dogs and cats enter shelters each year in the U.S., and half of them are euthanized. The program encourages people to compete with friends for points, including signing up for the application, inputting their ZIP codes, uploading a dog to their profile page and telling their Facebook friends about the app.
"Our mission at DogTime is to keep dogs out of shelters and in happy and healthy homes," says Trevor Wright, CEO of DogTime Media. "Save a Dog gives Facebook users a way to help to truly change the lives of these dogs for the better and to have fun while doing it."
The program will be supported by 1 million ads a month on Facebook and on DogTime network sites as well as through Twitter feeds. DogTime will syndicate an article about the program across its network of sites and blogs and promote it in its opt-in consumer newsletter. Finally, DogTime plans to invite 360 bloggers to write about the program. RecuseGroups.org will also promote the app to its 3,000 affiliate organizations.
