Team Impact Red, captained by Tyler Helms, VP-account director, Deutsch Advertising, will be walking in the 25th annual AIDS Walk New York on Sunday. Surpassing its initial goal of $25,000, the team has raised more than $35,000 in less than two weeks and now ranks as the 11th highest fundraising team for the event.
Impact Red, which is taking donations at its website, topped the $35,000 mark with a cocktail party this week at New York's La Pomme Restaurant that was hosted by drag queen Porsche and featured a special appearance by team member Jill Zarin, star of "The Real Housewives of New York."
In addition, the team's Facebook page, Impact Red, has drawn more than 350 members so far.
Impact Red was created by Helms to raise awareness and funds as well as to educate people after he publicly disclosed his status as HIV positive on World AIDS Day in December 2009.
"Team Impact Red's efforts are so much more than about me, than about the money or even the walk itself," Helms said in a statement. "It's about the power and responsibility we have to simply be human, act with humanity at the core of our actions. To collectively be a part of something so much greater than ourselves should not just be a once so often 'job well done.' It should be an expectation every day from everyone."
