Hearts & Minds: TBWA Room 13

Published on .

TBWA Room 13

Over a decade ago, a group of antsy young artists in the West Highlands of Scotland became fed up with their elementary school's lack of an arts program, so they took matters into their own hands, asking their school for studio space and hiring their own artist in residence to guide them, forming what became known as "Room 13." The kids established their own "management" team to run the studio and raise money to keep their program going. The students realized there was a need for such studios all over the globe, and eventually TBWA Worldwide jumped in to help expand their cause and nurture the next generation of young artists. Today, there are more than twenty Room 13 studios around the globe, including one that opened recently in South Central, Los Angeles, with another two to open in Pasadena, California and New York.
