In the annals of sneakerdom, few figures cut as wide a swath as Nike's Tinker Hatfield.

An accomplished athlete, Hatfield started his career as an architect, initially linking with Nike to design offices and retail spaces. After making the switch to products in 1985 he went on to footwear fame—he's credited as the inventor of the first cross trainer, and several best selling iterations of the Air Jordan. Currently serving as VP, Special Projects, Hatfield oversees Nike's top secret design think tank, the Innovation Kitchen.

He'll appear alongside other innovators like Method founder Eric Ryan, MIT Media Lab/OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte, chef Grant Achatz and others at the third annual IDEA Conference on October 30 in New York. For details and ticket info, go to www.idea08.com.
