Olympics sponsor Chevrolet and NBC will produce a two-and-a-half-minute short film that features cameos of athletes to promote the network’s coverage of the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, in February. The short, which will integrate Chevy vehicles, bowed during the Jan. 9 episode of “Las Vegas” and will appear in more than 10,000 theaters owned by National CineMedia as part of the company’s pre-show program from Jan. 13 to Feb. 9. It will also be used as 60-second promos to air on NBC. | The number of product placements jumped 30% in 2005 to 106,808 from 82,014 in 2004, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus’ PlaceViews tracking service. Reality shows accounted for seven of the top 10 shows with the most placements, with NBC’s boxing reality show “The Contender” landing the most, with 7,514 brand occurrences during 15 episodes.
