One Club Goes Hollywood, and Suzuki Catches an 'Ultimate Wave'

The One Club, the nonprofit that celebrates the craft of Madison Avenue behind the awards program the One Show, is going Hollywood. The club will be handing out its Gold, Silver and Bronze Pencils to the entertainment industry when it kicks off the inaugural One Show Entertainment Awards. The club said the awards pay "tribute to creative branding beyond mere product placement." Judges include Brett Ratner (director of "X-Men: The Last Stand"), David Lubars (chairman and chief creative cfficer, BBDO North America), Jon Kamen (chairman-CEO, @radical.media), David Droga (creative chairman, Droga5) and Scott Donaton (publisher of Entertainment Weekly).

The event takes place at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles on Oct. 7, 2008.

Mary Warlick, CEO, the One Club, said: "New brands are seeking to collaborate with the creators of movies, shows, games and web-based videos to support and, in some appropriate way, become part of the entertainment. This fall we look forward to celebrating the very best examples in this new kind of collaboration."
American Suzuki Motor Corp. is sponsoring the IMAX film "Ultimate Wave" along with co-sponsor Quiksilver. According to the automaker, Suzuki will implement a number of online efforts and other marketing initiatives to support the 2009 release of "Ultimate Wave." Already under way is an online campaign that includes the launch of a four-minute vignette featuring commentary from some of the top names in surfing.

This is the latest in a series of marketing efforts by Suzuki aimed at the surfing community. It is also the presenting sponsor of the Surfer Poll & Video Awards and has more recently partnered with the Surfrider Foundation and the U.S.A. Surf Team.
Strategic branding agency Siegel & Gale, part of Omnicom Group, this week announced the appointment of David Keefe as global director of media and entertainment.
