Catch Up on Your Silverman Reading

Published on .

As the news of Ben Silverman joining NBC Universal as co-chairman of NBC Entertainment and NBC Universal Television Studio broke this week, news reports have focused on the swiftness of the move, given that NBC's entertainment president, Kevin Reilly, had just signed a multiyear deal with the General Electric-owned media company. Speculation has turned to why NBC would axe the one exec who has been responsible for some of the network's recent hits while others have asked why NBC hasn't requested its new savior to divest himself of his successful production company, Reveille ("The Office," "Ugly Betty," "Biggest Loser"). And others are also bracing for what is generally being thought of as a move to bring more of Mr. Silverman's knack for product placement and brand integration into his programming. But not everyone thinks that's a bad thing.
