The retailer, which has had success with its celeb-studded commercials for several seasons, is launching a new campaign combining stars and iconic Macy's events. Christina Aguilera, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Martha Stewart and Donald Trump were matched with events including the Macy's Flower Show, Fourth of July Fireworks and Thanksgiving Day Parade.
The result is highly stylized shots, captured through the lens of Rolling Stone photographer Mark Seliger. JWT, New York, collaborated with Macy's on the campaign, which includes in-store display of the images, as well as the use of the images in marketing through the end of the year.
"This is an incredible milestone for Macy's," Peter Sachse, president-corporate marketing at Macy's, said in a statement. "There will be big celebrations and moments throughout the remainder of 2008, but what better way to kick off our 150th birthday festivities than with some of today's most popular stars and designers paying tribute to Macy's most revered and long-standing icons."
Macy's opened on Oct. 28, 1858, as a dry-goods store at 14th street and 6th Avenue in New York. Today it counts some 800 stores across the country.
