Bancrofts Bicker, Miss a Deadline, Lose Board Choice
The Wall Street Journal headline pretty much tells you how the folks sitting inside the WSJ edit office feel about their soon-to-be-former employers, the Bancroft family. Discussions over who would represent the family on the new board of directors once News Corp. assumes ownership dragged on so long that an initial 30-day deadline passed, letting the choice fall to Mr. Murdoch. So instead of the seasoned newspaper veteran some family members and many journalists had hoped for, the family's representative will be Natalie Bancroft, a 27-year-old opera singer living in Europe who, by her own admission, is a relative neophyte to the worlds of both journalism and commerce.
