The New York Times reports that NBC Universal signed Bonnie Hammer to a new contract that expands her duties to include control over the development of all entertainment programming for cable channels. The move sets up an unusual division, with Ms. Hammer overseeing all the shows intended to be played on cable. Katherine Pope, president of Universal Media Studios, will now oversee development of shows only for NBC's broadcast network. Ms. Hammer will also begin to oversee a group of smaller cable networks, including the Chiller and Sleuth networks. Retaining Ms. Hammer has been a critical goal for NBC Universal President Jeff Zucker, who has been referring to NBC Universal as a "cable company" because of the success of networks such as USA and SciFi.
