The New York Times reports today that NBC ordered five new hours of dramas, which will be part of the fall schedule the network plans to announce to advertisers May 14. NBC could still make changes this weekend, but executives in charge of the series were notified yesterday to expect places on the schedule.
A remake of "Bionic Woman," a sci-fi series about time travel called "Journeyman," police drama "Life," a "Sex and the City"-type Brooke Shields vehicle, "Lipstick Jungle," and "Chuck," about a computer whiz as a government agent, all were expected to be picked up. Renewed were "Friday Night Lights" and "Vegas," which is adding Tom Selleck to its cast.
Canceled were "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip," "The Black Donnellys" and "Crossing Jordan." It also is likely to pass up another year of the comedy "Scrubs," which has become prohibitively expensive.
