'Runway' stops here for Bravo show's producers; Magical Elves won't follow reality series to Lifetime

The Hollywood Reporter reports that "Project Runway" producers Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz will not follow the series when it moves to Lifetime. Cutforth and Lipsitz's company Magical Elves has signed an exclusive overall first-look deal with NBC Universal to produce new broadcast, cable and digital properties. As part of the deal, sources say the duo will finish producing the current fifth cycle of "Runway" for Bravo, but will leave the show rather than produce a sixth cycle at Lifetime. The move represents NBC Universal's ongoing return fire on "Runway" owner the Weinstein Co. after the Weinsteins shocked the industry by making a reported $150 million deal last month to shift Bravo's top-rated series to Lifetime. NBC Universal responded with a lawsuit accusing the Weinstein Co. of violating Bravo's right of first refusal for the series. But luring away the "Runway" producers might be seen as a more effective response.
