Ms. Berner resigned as group president at Fairchild Publications in January 2006 after a reorganization by the parent reduced Fairchild to a division of Conde Nast from a sibling. Ms. Berner was named president-CEO of RDA this March, almost as soon as Ripplewood Holdings completed its $2.4 billion acquisition of the Pleasantville, N.Y., company.
Expanding RDA across all media
Although she had made a triumphant return to magazine publishing, she has set about expanding RDA across all media and its brands into many new extensions. She has also reeled in former Conde Nast compatriots such as Suzanne Grimes, senior VP-corporate sales, and Eva Dillon, who had been VP-publisher of Cookie magazine.
All that activity has been noticed by Conde employees, who aren't used to seeing company stars leave under their own volition. With Ms. Gier's hire and others, the poaching has reached into the next echelon of Conde Nast executives.
At RDA, Ms. Gier will be responsible for integrating advertising, licensing, custom publishing and sponsorships across the Taste of Home portfolio. She will also work with RDA's new Food and Entertaining Integrated Sales and Marketing unit on Taste of Home and RDA's other food assets, Every Day with Rachael Ray and Allrecipes.com.
