Wendi Berger Steps Aside for Lee Slattery of Golf for Women

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Fitness magazine is getting its second new publisher in less than four months. Meredith Corp. has named Lee Slattery, the former VP-publisher of Conde Nast Publications' Golf for Women, to take over the title's top business-side spot, effective immediately.

Ms. Slattery succeeds Wendi Berger, who was named publisher at Fitness on March 28; Ms. Berger had been publisher at Child, but Meredith shut that book down on March 27. Ms. Berger, a veteran of titles including InStyle and Vanity Fair, has decided to leave Meredith but has agreed to stay on during the transition, the company said in a statement.

'Strong experience'
"We are thrilled to have someone with Lee's strong experience in women's lifestyle media join Fitness," said Tom Harty, exec VP, Meredith Publishing Group.

"Wendi has been a solid contributor to the company during her tenure, and we wish her success in her future endeavors," he added.

Ad pages at Fitness increased 20.1% in the first half of 2007 after a 3.6% decline during 2006, according to the Publishers Information Bureau.
