Ms. Naughton, who is scheduled to begin in several months, will report to Penry Price, eastern sales director at Google, and will be responsible for strengthening the search leader's ties with Madison Avenue.
Exited amid layoffs
After a 15-year career at Time Inc., Ms. Naughton left in December amid a company-wide round of layoffs. As president of Time, Naughton managed the magazine's global publishing operations, including brand management, business development, circulation and ad sales.
"We are pleased to confirm that Eileen Naughton will be joining Google as the head of Google's advertising sales for the New York office," a Google spokesman said in statement. "We look forward to bringing Eileen's vast traditional and online media experience to Google."
By all reports, Ms. Naughton is highly regarded by her peers in New York. George Janson, managing partner and director of print for Mediaedge:cia, worked closely with her during her tenure at Time. "She's got great relationships with everyone in New York and was pretty much adored at Time," Mr. Janson said.
Ms. Naughton also oversaw Time magazine's website, the Time For Kids Media Group and Life's book and magazine businesses. Prior to her role at Time Inc.'s flagship title, she served as VP-investor relations for AOL Time Warner from August 2000 to January 2002, and before that headed Time Inc.'s interactive operations.
