NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Mary Berner scored her latest hiring coup yesterday when the Reader's Digest Association, where she's been president-CEO for less than three weeks, named Alyce Alston its president for home and garden and health and wellness.
Alyce Alston used to be VP-group publisher at Conde Nast's Fairchild Publications division, where Mary Berner was president-CEO.

Ms. Alston had been CEO of De Beers North America, but like other recent recruits to RDA, she has a past with Ms. Berner. Ms. Alston was once VP-group publisher at the Fairchild Publications division of Conde Nast Publications; Ms. Berner used to be Fairchild's president-CEO.

Remaking RDA
Ms. Berner, who is remaking Readers Digest Association around specific content areas, got things rolling last week by poaching two former colleagues from Conde Nast. She named Eva Dillon, who was VP-publisher at Cookie magazine, to be president-group publisher responsible for Reader's Digest, Reader's Digest Large Print Edition and Selecciones, the U.S. Spanish-language version of the magazine. And Suzanne Grimes, who was senior VP-corporate sales at Conde, was named RDA's president for food and entertaining.

Before joining Fairchild, Ms. Alston was launch publisher of O, The Oprah Magazine and publisher of the now-defunct YM.

Reader's Digest Association was acquired by Ripplewood Holdings on March 2.
