Tim Kelly was named president of the global media group; he was president-CEO of National Geographic Ventures, a taxable subsidiary of the National Geographic Society that includes National Geographic Television, National Geographic Cinema Ventures, National Geographic Films, National Geographic Kids Entertainment, National Geographic Home Entertainment, National Geographic Digital Media, National Geographic Music and Radio, and National Geographic Maps.

Adding magazine and book publishing
In his new position, Mr. Kelly still will oversee all those areas but add reports from John Q. Griffin, president of the magazine group, and Nina Hoffman, president of book publishing. Mr. Kelly will continue to report to John Fahey, president-CEO of the National Geographic Society.

"This new combined structure is an important step in the evolution of our work in this exciting and rapidly changing digital world," Mr. Fahey said in a statement. "Our goal is to enhance and broaden coordination among our editorial units, refine our digital content strategies and better serve our members, our partners and our mission."
