Radaronline.com reports that the star has been putting in calls to the weeklies apologizing for actions taken by her former publicist, but People editor Larry Hackett was too busy to take her call. Ms. Simpson had to resort to "The View" to set the record straight with the world, and now, it seems, with the tabloids. We're really glad that's cleared up.
Meanwhile, all the usual suspects get appearances this week in the rest of the tabs. Britney Spears gave birth to a baby boy on Sept. 12, but that didn't stop Life & Style from announcing "It's a girl!" in this week's issue (insert "Oops! I Did It Again" joke here). Last week, it was unanimous among the tabloids that Ms. Spears would give birth to a girl, and this week it appears Life & Style's coin toss failed it. In Touch played it safe by reporting on false labor pains the star had days before she was due, while the others avoided the issue all together.
If revealing Suri was a chance for Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to get some positive publicity, it did the job. Now that she has finally been seen, the next natural question is when TomKat will tie the knot, and Us Weekly and Life & Style take the bait. After weeks of claiming Ms. Holmes is unhappy and planning to run, the magazines ring of wedding bells and a happy couple. Us reports that the wedding is just days away, that with the unveiling of Suri, Ms. Holmes is ready to walk down the aisle. Life & Style confirms that, with Suri shown to the world, Ms. Holmes' baby weight gone, a prenup agreed upon and relations between the two families good, a wedding is imminent. If only those Suri controversies would abate.
Even the unborn children of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are tabloid-worthy. Both Star and In Touch this week report that Ms. Jolie seems to be pregnant with baby No. 4, with the former further dishing that she wants to adopt from India. In Touch wonders if a baby would change Mr. Pitt's mind about holding off marriage until, as he said in an Esquire interview, "everyone else in the country who wants to be married is legally able." Don't expect that to stop the speculation.
