Viacom's water coolers are enjoying newfound popularity as staff gather to take odds on the next swath of changes at the top. The speculation is that universally adored Judy McGrath, president of MTV Networks (music & comedy) is on the ascension. McGrath, who will forever be associated with Janet Jackson's Super Bowl "boob gate," is predicted to take over much of Tom Freston's old job as Chairman-CEO of MTV Networks. Freston is now president co-chief operating officer of Viacom along with Les Moonves, who was previously chairman-CEO of CBS. According to executives close to the company, Viacom won't leave Herb Scannell empty handed. Scannell, who also holds responsibility for the hugely profitable Nickelodeon, TV Land and SpikeTV, may gain additional units to oversee. Viacom's MTV Networks' division includes MTV, MTV2, VH1, Comedy Central, CMT, Spike TV, TV Land and Nick at Nite. The company was expected to announce news of Freston's replacement soon after his appointment June 1, but appears to be holding back until it can finalize other management changes. Next question is, who's getting Judy's job?
