Mr. Denson, 53, comes to G&J from Reiman Media Group, where he was president-CEO. Reiman is an advertising-free, Wisconsin-based unit of the Reader's Digest Association that publishes homespun titles such as Taste of Home. He was CEO of Weider Publications when American Media bought it in 2002.

Mr. Denson, 53, begins his new post June 14.

He replaces Dan Brewster, who left the company in January, following a disastrous legal battle the publishing firm had with a onetime business partner, entertainer Rosie O'Donnell, and revelations that G&J egregiously overstated the newsstand sales of its Rosie and YM magazines.
