Just a year after joining NBC Universal, John Harrobin, who served as chief marketing officer for the company's Content Innovation Agency, has departed from the company.
Mr. Harrobin joined NBCU in December 2015 from Verizon, where he served as chief marketing officer of its consumer and mass business unit, which includes Fios video and the internet business.
"It's been an awesome year. I've learned a ton and we accomplished some incredible things," Mr. Harrobin said via email. "That said, I miss driving growth for a brand vs. multiple client brands and working on elements beyond media and so am excited to get back to doing what I love most."
Mr. Harrobin had been brought on to oversee the strategy and marketing for the ad sales division, with the goal of giving clients more access to the original content created with NBCU's talent and creative and distributed across all of its platforms. He had reported to Linda Yaccarino, chairman-advertising sales and client partnerships.
"We appreciate John's many contributions and respect his desire to try something new outside of the company. We wish him the best in his next endeavor," an NBCU spokeswoman said.
During his brief tenure, Mr. Harrobin helped launch NBCU's branded content studio.
NBCU will not replace Mr. Harrobin and plans on reogranizing the group, the spokeswoman said.
