MTV is the latest brand to jump on the emoji bandwagon.
The Viacom-owned cable network is partnering with Twitter to turn its iconic Moonman into an emoji for the 2015 "Video Music Awards."
When viewers post tweets using the hashtags #VMA or #VMAs, the Moonman emoji will automatically appear in their message.
The Moonman was redesigned for this year's award show by fashion designer Jeremy Scott and now includes Mr. Scott's signature sneakers.
The VMAs, which will be hosted by Miley Cyrus, will air on MTV on Aug. 30.
Marketers and media companies have been creating emojis as a way to be part of the social conversation. McDonald's has anthorpomorphized emojis on TV, while Domino's this summer began letting customers order by tweeting a pizza emoji. And FX Networks introduced an emoji app last month that features expressions inspired by popular shows like "Archer" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."
There's even an emoji game show in the works from the producers of "Undercover Boss."
