Rolling Stone Publisher Resigns to Move to Google

Tim Castelli Named Search Engine's New York Sales Director

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Tim Castelli has resigned as publisher of Rolling Stone to join Google as New York sales director, a spokeswoman at the magazine said today. An internal announcement from owner Wenner Media is expected shortly. A successor has not yet been named.

Mr. Castelli's tenure, which will officially end on Wednesday, will be another short one for the top business-side spot at Rolling Stone. He was named publisher in April 2006 after Steve DeLuca, who had filled the post for two years, failed to reach a new contract with Wenner.

Mr. Castelli, who was associate publisher at Maxim before joining Rolling Stone, is not the first magazine pro to turn tech. Last August Google named Eileen Naughton, former president of Time magazine, head of ad sales for the web giant's New York offices. She was recently named director-media platforms, from regional sales director-East Coast.

A Google spokesman could not be immediately reached late this afternoon.
