NEW YORK ( -- Gruner & Jahr USA Publishing will name Joan Sheridan LaBarge publisher of teen magazine YM later today, an executive familiar with the situation said.

Ms. LaBarge replaces Laura McEwen, who left earlier this month to become vice president and publishing director of Reader's Digest and its associated properties.

'Rosie' publisher
Ms. LaBarge was formerly publisher of G&J's Rosie magazine, the company's ill-fated joint venture with talk show host Rosie O'Donnell. The title published its last issue in December 2002 after a protracted and public spat between G&J and Ms. O'Donnell.

Most recently Ms. LaBarge had been corporate publisher for new-business development at G&J, which is exploring a number of potential launches aimed at women.

Under Ms. McEwen, YM posted an impressive series of ad page gains, but a recent audit by the Audit Bureau of Circulations found it had overstated its average newsstand sales by nearly 200,000 copies during a six-month period in 2001. Later this year, YM's rate base will drop to 2 million from 2.2 million.
