Sports Illustrated has named Matt Bean managing editor at SI.com, succeeding Paul Fichtenbaum, who was recently named editorial director at the Time Inc. sports group.
Mr. Bean was most recently VP for digital product development at Rodale, where he helped magazine brands build digital editions and products for platforms such as the iPad. Most recently he focused on managing the company's YouTube channel partnership and Fitbie.com website, a joint venture with MSN.
At Sports Illustrated, he will run operations and editorial strategy at SI.com and FanNation.com.
Sports Illustrated has been at the forefront of Time Inc.'s digital experimentation and development in areas such as the company's All Access subscription strategy, which bundles digital access with print subscriptions, and an app edition that runs on desktop computers. The magazine also cut 16 jobs last month amid a shifting media landscape.
