'IN STYLE' PUBLISHER CHANGES HOUSES

Lou Cona Moves to 'Vanity Fair'

By Published on .

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Lou Cona, publisher of Time Inc.'s celeb and fashion magazine-cum-telephone book In Style, was named publisher of Vanity Fair March 19.

His appointment is effective immediately.

Mr. Cona, 43, replaces Peter King Hunsinger, 44, who on March 15 was promoted to executive vice president-chief marketing officer of Vanity Fair's parent company, Conde Nast Publications. No replacement for Mr. Cona was immediately named.

The move is a rare defection by a highly regarded Time Inc. publisher to Conde Nast.

While both Vanity Fair and In Style are thick, celebrity-obsessed glossies that have not slimmed down in 2001, the internal cultures at the companies are markedly different, with Conde Nast's publishers tending to focus more strictly on ad sales than their counterparts at Time Inc., who have more leeway in their executive roles.
