Surprising but Not Surprising: ESPN Suspends Keith Olbermann

By Published on .

ESPN said Tuesday that it had suspended Keith Olbermann for the week over a Twitter fight regarding Penn State Monday night:

It was completely inappropriate and does not reflect the views of ESPN. We have discussed it with Keith, who recognizes he was wrong. ESPN and Keith have agreed that he will not host his show for the remainder of this week and will return on Monday.

The suspension won't exactly trigger a siren on the Drudge Report. ESPN hired Mr. Olbermann back for a show on ESPN2 in 2013, a year after Current TV fired him, two years after his relationship with MSNBC failed and 16 years after a bitter exit from ESPN. Mr. Olbermann usually gets in trouble fighting with management, though, not Penn State students publicizing the fight against pediatric cancer. He responded to a tweet to that end Monday by calling the school's attendees "pifitul."

Criticized, he clarified:

Today he said he was sorry.
