Taylor Swift released her "edgy" new single on iTunes Friday morning, quickly drawing plenty of social-media mockery like this ...
Spare a thought for the Taylor Swift superfans that have to defiantly pretend this new song is amazing— Patrick Monahan (@pattymo) August 25, 2017
... but just as quickly finding a second life in a promo for ABC's Shonda Rhimes lineup:
It's a power play on behalf of ABC's Thursday programming, the crown jewel for the last-place broadcast network among 18-to-49-year-olds.
Rhimes' four shows last season -- "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," "How To Get Away With Murder" and the now-canceled "The Catch" -- comprised 20% of ABC's primetime scripted gross ratings points and 44% of its drama GRPs. "Grey's Anatomy" finished its 13th season still among the top 10 scripted series among 18-to-49-year-olds.
Two more Rhimes shows are also on their way to ABC's airwaves, a legal drama called "For the People" and a firehouse soap spun off from "Grey's."
Rhimes of course has since signed a deal to make new shows for Netflix.
