Time Inc. has named Sally Preston publisher of Real Simple magazine, filling a position that 's been vacant since it moved Kevin White to run Health magazine back in July.
A spokeswoman confirmed the move on Thursday.
Since 2008 Ms. Preston had been exec VP-group publisher at Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, responsible for ad sales across all the company's magazines and their extensions. Word of her exit came earlier this month as the company hired Joe Lagani for the newly created post of chief revenue officer.
Ms. Preston previously worked at magazines including Better Homes and Gardens, Organic Style and O, The Oprah Magazine.
In her new post, she will report to Evelyn Webster, exec VP of Time Inc.'s Lifestyle Group.
Real Simple's ad pages this year declined 5.5% from the equivalent issues a year earlier, according to the Media Industry Newsletter, compared with a 2.6% decline across monthlies as a whole.
In other publisher moves this week, Conde Nast named Kevin Martinez, a former publisher of Elle, to fill the vacant publisher's post at Details. It earlier named Jason Wagenheim publisher at Teen Vogue, succeeding Sabine Feldmann, who will soon receive a new post at Conde Nast, the company said.
For its part, Time Inc. just filled a much bigger vacancy -- the CEO spot that 's been open since February -- with Laura Lang, CEO of Digitas. She begins in January.
