NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Layoffs returned to Time Inc. this week as its Southern Progress division in Birmingham, Ala., began eliminating some 30 positions across departments and titles. Southern Progress, which publishes magazines including Cooking Light and Cottage Living, had employed 922 full-timers.

The layoffs were first reported Wednesday by Birmingham Weekly. The New York Post reported earlier that day that a new round of layoffs was expected at Time Inc. A Southern Progress spokeswoman said she did not know of any further cuts to come. A Time Inc. spokeswoman in New York said there aren't any other cuts currently planned, though the company continues to study its costs.

Time Inc. CEO Ann Moore cut more than 800 jobs at Time Inc. over the span of 2005, 2006 and 2007. Surviving employees have remained nervous ever since.
