Tweeting Goodbye to Revamped 'Idol' Season

Finale Sends off the Season that Reworked an Aging Hit Show

Last night's "American Idol" final began with a rather limp lineup of performers -- Tony Bennett (sweet), Tom Jones (who needs to lay off the tanning bed), Gladys Knight (capable) and not one but two turns by Beyonce (no comment). And there was a wholly embarrassing session of booty shaking by J. Lo.

But the sendoff shone with a gloriously entertaining turn by Lady Gaga, a screamingly funny "Fat Bottom Girls" duet by Jack Black and Casey Abrams and a riveting version of "Dream On" by Steven Tyler that showed how much better a performer he is than a judge. Spider-Man swooped in from the Nokia rafters. James Durbin performed with Judas Priest.

Oh, and somebody took the title. I forget who.

Since it's the end of the season, rather than pick over the details of show tens of millions of you have already watched, we decided this week to end our look at the "Idol" revamp by simply publishing last night's live tweets from yours truly, @judy_pollack.
