Rolling Stone and Us Weekly publisher Wenner Media has named Michael Bloom its new chief digital officer, a role that 's enjoying a bit of resurgence at media companies even as it evolves.
Mr. Bloom, a former senior VP of digital media at MTV Networks, will take over from departing Chief Digital Officer Steven Schwartz, who has been named global head of business development for Reuters Media.
Mr. Bloom, who was most recently at a startup called Sharecare, will be tasked with growing the digital business around the company's three titles: Rolling Stone, Us Weekly and Men's Journal. According to the company, its combined media brands bring in an average monthly audience of 26 million readers and generate around 160 million page views.
"I'm thrilled to join Wenner Media's talented team," Mr. Bloom said in a company statement. "I look forward to helping accelerate the company's digital growth and to create new ways to connect with our audience across multiple screens."
In his new role, Mr. Bloom will manage both editorial and advertising operations for the digital units, as well as technology and marketing. Prior to MTV , Mr. Bloom was VPt of Digital Media Products at AOL, where he helped build out its music channel.
