Seven of 10 biggest Japanese agencies see billings drop

TOKYO -- Advertising billings of the 10 largest advertising agencies during June 1998 decreased 2.3% to $1.8 billion from the same month in the previous year. Agencies saw a drop in billings through radio, newspaper and television during June, compared with the same month of 1997.

Three ad agencies increased their June billings: Asatsu, Daiko and I&S. The seven with lower billings are Dentsu, Hakuhodo, Tokyu Agency, Yomiko Advertising, Dai-Ichi Kikaku, McCann-Erickson and Asahi Advertising.
