ESPN and parent Walt Disney Co. are expected to announce the launch of ESPN Magazine
this week. John Skipper, president of Disney Publishing, will leave that post to head up the new ESPN publishing venture, which will launch in Spring 1998. The new magazine is planning to publish up to 40 times a year, starting with a biweekly schedule. Test issues had been produced through Hearst Magazines . Hearst Magazines President Cathleen Black said ESPN would be the lead on the new venture, and that Hearst's only continuing role would be distribution for the title.
