Only 25% of PC users can watch video

Of the 70 million U.S. homes with personal computers, only about 17.4 million own the hardware and software required to view Web video in real time, according to a new survey from Media Metrix, New York. The report found the following usage statistics for hardware and software components required to watch Web video: 50.2% of all U.S. PCs are equipped with at least a Pentium or 586 processor; 43% of all home PCs have a 100MHz processor or higher; 62% of all home PCs are equipped with 16MB RAM or more; 80% of all home PCs support 256 colors (8-bit) or higher; 48.7% of all home PCs have a 28.8 modem or higher; 63.5% of all home PCs are running on the Windows 95 operating system.
