1-800-Flowers, Westbury, N.Y., reported a 150% jump in online sales in December 1996 over December 1995. More than $4 million in sales representing 80,000 orders, were placed on the retailer's site during that month. The majority (62%) came from male customers. Recent surveys from interactive consultancies reveal that online consumers who shop are increasingly pointing their browsers directly to the brands and vendors they know, as opposed to visiting cybermalls.
