A-B reports beer gains

Published on .

Continued sales growth from Bud Light helped propel record first quarter U.S. beer shipments by Anheuser-Busch Cos., up 0.3% from a year ago to 20.8 million barrels. A-B said its beer market share climbed to 45% of industry shipments, from 44.6% in last year's first quarter, despite a February 1997 price hike that added 10 cents to 15 cents to the retail price of a six-pack. A-B said volume at its international beer operations was up 31% from the year ago quarter and that it approved plans to double the capacity of a brewery it operates in China.
