AAP unveils digital ID system

Published on .

The Association of American Publishers on Sept. 22 previewed the online prototype of its digital object identifier system, which will help manage the distribution of copyrighted digital materials. The system, developed in collaboration with the Corp. for National Research Initiatives, assigns digital content a unique and permanent identifying number, the DOI, which is managed by a directory and allows users to link to specific content. One of the goals of the system is to ensure the authenticity and integrity of materials distributed in cyberspace.
