ABC debuts online newscast

Published on .

ABC, New York, today launched what it claims is network TV's first regularly scheduled live TV program for the Web, a 15-minute, three-times-a-week newscast with Sam Donaldson. Unlike previous network uses of the Web, which included simulcasting over-the-air programming or rerunning taped features, SamDonaldson@ABCNEWS.com is a live broadband broadcast produced specifically for the Web; it is slated for 12:30 p.m. (ET) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Today's Webcast aired with a single 30-second ad for Fidelity Investments' new PowerStreet online brokerage. ABC executives said they expect to offer additional live programming shortly.
