ABC Sports will now report to Steve Bronstein, the president of ESPN, Capital Cities/ABC announced late Wednesday. The move, long-anticipated since ABC and ESPN were acquired by the Walt Disney Co., coincided with the announcement that Dennis Swanson, the long-time president of ABC Sports, is retiring. Reportedly, Mr. Swanson was opposed to putting ABC Sports under the tutelage of ESPN. ABC Sports sales will continue to be part of ABC TV Network sales. ESPN is owned 80% by Cap Cities/ABC; Hearst Corp. owns the rest.
