ABC Sports Online, ABC.com end content deal with AOL

Published on .

ABC Sports Online and ABC.com will no longer supply content on America Online after April 30, a spokesman for ESPN Internet Ventures said. Both ABC online properties will instead concentrate solely on Web-based product. That means ABC Sports Online is now fully integrated into ESPN Online Ventures. Under the content deal with AOL that ends this Friday, ABC Sports Online could only cover sports events as housed within AOL. Now the site can put ABC Sports-branded events online itself. ``ABC Sports Online now will receive significant online promotion and is in a better position to flourish within ESPN Internet Ventures,'' the spokesman said. ABC.com, too, will focus now on providing branded content through its own Web site rather than through AOL. In related news, ABCNEWS.com will launch ``A Beginner's Guide to Investing'' April 30 and will launch ``A Beginner's Guide to the Web'' on May 14.
