Courage Ltd.-John Smith's Yorkshire Bitter: "Penguins" (BMP DDB Needham Worldwide; Fletcher/Sanderson; :40). Droll British humor abounds in this category winner from the U.K. A bored-looking man slouches in an easy chair with a John Smith's beer as two penguins in tap shoes do a song-and-dance in front of him.

Deadpan, he turns to the camera and tells us that John Smith's draught "now has a widget in the can for that just-served-by-the-landlord taste. And when you've got a widget, you don't need gimmicks." With that, the penguins whine, hang their heads and shuffle sadly away.

Carlsberg Bryggerierne-Carlsberg beer: "Commune" (SSA; :50). Spot from Saatchi & Saatchi Advertising Worldwide's Copenhagen agency opens with a young man visiting a hippie commune he hopes to join. His scraggly host shows him through the place, where he encounters a dog named Mao, acid rock, naked young women, coed showers and even a shared toothbrush. In fact, it seems members of the commune share everything-almost. When the young man spots a case of Carlsberg, he says, "must be our ......." but before he can finish, the host yells, "No way, man! That's my beer! You keep you damn hands off!"

Endframe: "Our beer."
