Hindustan Lever reviews media

[bombay] Hindustan Lever has put its $50 million media account up for review. Participants include Ammirati Puris Lintas India, Ogilvy & Mather and Hindustan Thompson, all Lever agencies. Thompson handles Lever's media account through its Fulcrum arm. The Lever win would substantially add to Lintas' and O&M's billings and could narrow the lead between Thompson and Lintas, No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, among local ad agencies. Lintas' Initiative Media arm is the biggest media planning and buying entity in India.

Club Med hires Publicis for makeover

[paris] Club Med hired Publicis Conseil to become its first global agency and revamp its worldwide image. Club Med wants to evoke a modern youthful image to lure fitness and family tourists. The company has pledged to invest around $550 million over the next three years in its hotels, advertising and data processing systems. Publicis Bloom, New York, will handle the U.S. portion.

TBWA buys Belgian shop

[brussels] TBWA International has bought Belgian shop GV Co. and three of its satellites. The new group, branded TBWA GV Group Belgium, ranks No. 5 in the Belgian market, with a combined gross income of about $11 million. The deal marks the conclusion of nine months of negotiations between TBWA General Manager Andre Rysman and Gerard Govaerts, who left TBWA Brussels nine years ago to found his own agency with Creative Director Bruno Van Spauwen. GV had begun to lose ground following the loss of both the Mazda and National Lottery accounts and the departure of General Manager Andre Duval.

Compuware taps Carat for media

[london] Compuware has picked Carat International to handle its media planning and buying business-reported to be worth $5.8 million-as part of its first international corporate advertising campaign. Arian, Lowe & Travis, Chicago, handles Compuware's advertising. A broadcast, print and business-to-business campaign will run in Europe, Asia, the Pacific and Australia.

Chowking Foods expands to U.S.

[manila] Chowking Foods expects to license units for its Oriental food restaurants to be located in Seafood City Supermarkets in California. Agreements also are being discussed in Milan and Rome. Chowking already has two California units and another branch in the Middle East.
