Coca-Cola Co.-Diet Coke: "Elephant" ( Fallon McElligott; Tarsem; :60). An elephant is seen swimming underwater, from underwater. It surfaces at a raft where a woman suns herself and reads, oblivious to the interloping behemoth. What appears to be the elephant's trunk takes one of two bottles of Diet Coke from the raft after depositing peanuts in return. Spot ends with the elephant swimming away to the accompaniment of original song "Is It Love?" (see Craft category winners, Page S-9). Stunning cinematography in this category winner, which was shot, using two honest-to-goodness elephants, on the island of Phuket off the coast of Thailand.

Pepsi-Cola Co.-Pepsi-Cola: "Summer of Love" ( BBDO Worldwide; Pytka; :60). One-time flower children return to Woodstock, N.Y., 25 years later in an attempt to relive their youth in this cross-generational spoof. From a hill, several Pepsi-drinking youngers look down on the antics of the former hippies with disdain. "This is the anniversary of a famous event," says one of them. "Watergate." Spot includes cameo appearances by the original Jefferson Airplane, "Country Joe" McDonald and John Sebastian.

Royal Crown Cola Co.-RC Cola: "Fish-O-Rama" ( GSD&M Advertising; David Wild; :60). Theater of the bizarre. Two fishing boats leave port, one with a "Pepsi" crew and the other with a "Coke" crew to accompaniment of voice-over: "For years, you've been fed the same old line-there are only two great-tasting colas to choose from. Hey, you don't have to swallow that any more." The fishermen bait hooks with cans of their respective colas and cast, reeling in people from the deep. The boats return to shore and the people are strung upside down like fish. VO: "Drink RC and you'll look at colas in a whole different way." With that, one of the "catch," still hanging upside down, watches onlooker drink RC.
