Emergency Ad Camaigns for New York City Planned

By Published on .

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- The Advertising Council, acting at the request of New York City tourism officials, is launching a fund-raising campaign for the families of those lost in last week's terror attacks.

An Ad Council official said the advertising, from Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson Worldwide, will appear nationally on TV and radio and was requested by NYC & Co., formerly known as the New York Convention & Visitors Bureau, the city's official tourism-marketing organization. The campaign will feature a major New York personality, but it was uncertain today who would be used.

Ad Council officials said that in response to the attacks they are offering to distribute or create messages for groups needing public service messages related to the incidents, even if the groups are not part of normal Ad Council campaigns.
