Published on .

Peter Kim, 40, formerly a top strategic planning executive at J. Walter Thompson Co. and McCann-Erickson Worldwide, died of heart failure April 9 in New York. Mr. Kim was born in Seoul and came to the U.S. as a child. He joined JWT at age 21 and eventually rose to chief strategy officer-worldwide. During his JWT tenure, Mr. Kim co-authored with then JWT creative chief James Patterson two well-know books, "The Day America Told the Truth and "The Second American Revolution.'' In 1993, he joined McCann as vice chairman-chief strategy officer. At that agency, Mr. Kim helped launch creative boutique Amster Yard. He left McCann in 1997 to start Bright Sun Group, which offers brand strategy and integrated marketing expertise.
