Focus on: IBM Corp. (IBM)

Louis Gerstner brought Big Blue back from the brink, and the share price increased sevenfold in his nine-year run as CEO. It's been tougher since Sam Palmisano took over March 1, 2002. The stock trades at a 1998 level; sales grew an average 2% a year from 2000 to 2004. He's rethinking the formula, selling the PC unit to China's Lenovo Group on May Day and realigning IBM's services unit. Services now provide more than half of revenue.
