Interpublic grabbed first place in April new business (Discover Card, Del Monte pet products), its second consecutive month of strong performance, according to the account tally by Bear Stearns' Alexia Quadrani. WPP came in last place with losses of Delta and P&G's Actonel. Still, WPP retained first place year to date.



Cisco (the computer networking outfit) and Sysco (the food service giant) both had record '05 sales and profits, but there the similarities end. Cisco stock is down 75% from the bubble's 2000 top; Sysco is up 78%. But investors who ventured in after the market peak did better in the Valley; Cisco outperformed Sysco in '03, '05 and year-to-date '06. Cisco ad spending has rebounded from $17 million in '02 to a range of $69 million to $75 million in '03-'05.

AdMarket 50 sank to its lowest level since Oct. '04. IPG fell to its lowest price since March '03 and had its second-highest volume day in history.
