AFL-CIO Web community targets union families

The AFL-CIO today announces, a Web community intended to bring union families online. The ad-supported site, launching Dec. 1, is a partnership between the 13-million member labor group and iBelong, a Waltham, Mass., custom portal developer. The partnership is seeking bids from Internet service providers and home PC marketers to offer cheaper Web service and PCs. The portal will provide e-commerce links and e-mail and information about union workplace and legislative issues. The site will allow shoppers to select union-made and U.S.-made goods, and to identify and protest goods made under anti-union conditions.
